Core Supports — Assistance with Social & Community Participation

Recreation Support

Surfing, golf, beach walks, sport, and the activities you love — supported safely and consistently by a team that shows up.

What is Recreation Support?

Recreation Support is funded under Core Supports — Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation (Category 04). This category covers support to access recreational and leisure activities that align with your NDIS goals and contribute to your health, wellbeing, and social participation.

The NDIS distinguishes between funding support worker time and participation costs. Your support worker's time is covered by NDIS; activity membership fees or entry costs are generally your own responsibility unless stated otherwise in your plan.

Eligibility

To access this support through Joyful Support, the following conditions generally apply:

NDIS Participant

You are an active NDIS participant with Core Supports — Category 04 funding (or flexible Core budget)

Reasonable & Necessary

The recreational activity is reasonable and necessary — it connects directly to goals in your NDIS plan (e.g. improving fitness, building social skills, increasing independence)

Support Required

The activity cannot be reasonably accessed without support due to your disability

Not Mainstream

You are not already receiving equivalent support through mainstream services (community sport programs, public recreation)

Participation Goal

The support is for your participation — not purely social enjoyment without a disability-related goal connection

Not sure if you're eligible? Talk to your Local Area Coordinator (LAC), support coordinator, or plan manager — or contact us directly and we'll help you work it out. Eligibility is always assessed in the context of your individual NDIS plan and goals.
