Core Supports — Assistance with Social & Community Participation

Social & Community Participation

Building genuine connection, confidence, and belonging — supported by a team that understands what real community participation looks like.

What is Social & Community Participation?

Social and Community Participation is funded under Core Supports — Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation (Category 04). It covers support to engage in social, recreational, and community activities — and in some cases, capacity building funding can complement this through skill development programs that build longer-term social independence.

The NDIS recognises that for many participants, disability creates barriers to community life that would not exist otherwise. This support removes those barriers through practical, person-centred assistance.

Eligibility

To access this support through Joyful Support, the following conditions generally apply:

NDIS Participant

You are an active NDIS participant with Core Supports — Category 04 in your plan

Disability Barrier

Your disability creates a barrier to participating in social or community activities without support

Plan Goals Aligned

The activities connect to goals in your plan — social connection, skill development, independence, or wellbeing

Not Mainstream

The support is not duplicating what mainstream community services already provide

Measurable Outcomes

Evidence shows the activity delivers measurable participation outcomes — not purely passive leisure

Not sure if you're eligible? Talk to your Local Area Coordinator (LAC), support coordinator, or plan manager — or contact us directly and we'll help you work it out. Eligibility is always assessed in the context of your individual NDIS plan and goals.
